Are you required to profess a faith to live in the AO house?
Answer: Absolutely not. The Alpha Omega house has been a home to students who follow a variety of different faiths and world religions, as well as students who have never professed a faith at all. Our desires is that the AO house would be a safe environment where students might explore the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth and decide what they believe about him.
What are the expectations of Students living in the AO house?
Answer: We define the house as an intentional community. With that in mind, we expect students to invest accordingly. Students are required to meet in a small group weekly, comprised of people within the house. Everyone agrees to be a part of the maintenance and cleanliness of the house through weekly chores and assigned dish nights. We also have two required house retreats that are both fun and meaningful.
Are there rules, hours or curfews?
Answer: House rules are few, we ask that the house is dry, that students aren't involved in drinking alcohol in the house. If you smoke, you do it off house property. No firearms or weapons, and no inappropriate sexual behavior. There is no curfew at our house. Congrats. You are an adult.
What is the involvement of the house directors?
Answer: The house directors are involved in your life to the extent that you invite them to be. If you choose to make choices that compromise the community as a whole, you've unintentionally invited them in. Congrats again.
What is the cost of living at the AO house? And, what does that include?
Answer: The cost of living at the AO house is derived from the UofM on-campus living. We adjust to the lowest fee for living on campus, and attempt to give you the best deal we can.
How do I go about paying for my housing?
Answer: There are two options. You can pay the complete fee at the beginning of each semester by check. The second option is to pay half at the beginning of the semester and half midway through. Any other payment plan must be approved by the house directors.
Are there any fees that are not included that I should expect?
Why yes, glad you asked. Along with your application you will need to pay a $150 security deposit which holds your spot and is refundable up til July 1. Furthermore upon move in an additional $150 damage deposit is needed. Both can be returned after moving out as long as the tenant upholds their contractual obligations. We typically have a January service trip to Guatemala, which is not required and will be application based.
