Am I required to profess a faith to live in the AO house?
Absolutely not. The Alpha Omega house has been a home to students who follow a variety of different faiths and world religions, as well as students who have never professed a faith at all. Our desire is that the AO House would be a safe environment where students might explore the teachings of Jesus and decide what they believe about him.
What are the expectations of Students living in the AO house?
We define the house as an intentional community. With that in mind, we expect students to invest accordingly. Students are required to meet in a small group weekly, comprised of people within the house. Everyone agrees to be a part of the maintenance and cleanliness of the house through weekly chores and assigned dish nights. We also have two required house retreats (which are both fun and meaningful) and occasional House meetings.
Are there rules, hours or curfews?
House rules are few. We ask that the house is dry, even if you are of age, and that if you smoke, you do it off house property. No firearms or weapons, and no inappropriate sexual behavior. There is no curfew at our house. Congrats. You are an adult.
What is the involvement of the house directors?
The house directors are involved in your life to the extent that you invite them to be. If you choose to make choices that compromise the community as a whole, you've unintentionally invited them in. Congrats again.
What is the cost of living at the AO house? And, what does that include?
The cost of living at the AO house is derived from the UM on-campus living. We adjust to the lowest fee for living on campus, and attempt to give you the best deal we can. Click the "Housing" tab for details.
How do I go about paying for my housing?
There are two options. You can pay the complete fee at the beginning of each semester by check. The second option is to pay half at the beginning of the semester and half midway through. We also accept financial aid! Any other payment plan must be approved by the house directors.
Are there any fees that are not included that I should expect?
Why yes, glad you asked. Along with your $100 application fee you will need to pay a $250 security / damage deposit upon moving in. This can be returned after moving out as long as the tenant upholds their contractual obligations.
